Big bow headband *pattern*

I've been crocheting A LOT since the holidays are right around the corner, and I came up with a really big bow pattern. These are a lot like my smaller ones, the only difference is that I made it so you can slide the bow across the headband anyway you like. Or you can even  have different bows with one actual headband, because the bow comes off easily if you want it to. Ok, enough of that.. .now for the pattern

Big Bow Pattern
created by Brittany for CreativeMe!

5.5 hook
bow

row 1: ch 40
row 2: hdc in 3rd ch from hook across
row 3-7: ch 2, hdc across
fold the strip together to form a cuff, and sew together

headband

ch 85
row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook across

center of bow

ch 10
sc in 2nd ch from hook
wrap around bow, pull tight and tie

**Note**
To make the bow interchangeable slip the headband under the loop of bow center (behind the bow)
Now you can slide the bow anywhere you want while its on, or create different colored bows to use on the same headband...

Awww! lol, I think I may record a video on how to do it and post it on youtube.. but I'm pretty shy...so it'll just be my voice. Hopefully it will help u out, cuz they're really easy and fun to make!

Hey! Thanks for the pictures and the pattern. You make it look so easy. I am a beginner. I am attempting this one. I am having difficulty understanding the pattern. I am not sure if I'm doing it right. Did you make a video? I will start fourth row of the bow next.

what does this mean "ch 2, hdc across"
and
"fasten off and weave ends" mean?

How do you fasten off?
I know hdc means half double crochet, but what does chain 2 mean here? Thank you

ch 2 means 'chain 2' just means that you make 2 chains. 'hdc across' means that you do 1 half double crochet in each stitch all the way across. Fasten off and weave ends is your very last step. fasten off just means that you make a slip stitch and pull tight. to weave in the ends, I just take a big needle (not sure the correct name for them) and I weave the tail in so it won't come un-done

Thank you! I made this after seeing your pattern! I posted a video on youtube for how it looks and created your blog.

I noticed your bow looks thicker. Did you fold it? Use special yarn?

Forgive my ignorance, but how did you secure the head band to your head? Did you tie it in the back or is it a big loop that you slip over you head?

I don't understand how you can change the bow. Is the headband tied in the back?

Your bags and bows are so adorable! I haven't crocheted for many years, but these look like a quick way to get back into it - now off to buy some hooks and yarn! Thanks for the cute inspiration!

How do you connect the headband, especially if the bows are interchangeable? Also, regarding the center of bow, you chain 10 and sc in 2nd ch from hook. What do you do with the other chains? For the bow, when you "fold the strip in half to form a cuff, does that mean from end to end and then you sew all the way around?

Brittany said...

The headband goes through the middle piece so the bow slides on and off easily. For the center of the bow, yo chain 10 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and continue to sc until you get to the end. For the bow, you fold it so the short ends are touching and sew them together. Hope that helps :-)
